New MOC - Emerald Creek Ruins

Postby Sir Valiant~ » Fri Jan 09, 2015 9:54 am

Hey AbbyLUG members! Hope you are all had a merry Christmas and are doing well this new year.
I was able to do a bit of building in December and managed to come up with this:

Hope it provides a bit of inspiration!
I don't know how often you guys MOC but that is what takes up most of my time in the hobby.
Originally I had no idea what this build was going to be, I had the landscape done but no structure.
After letting it sit on my desk untouched for a few days, the ideas of ancient ruins popped into my head.
It seemed unique and I am really happy with the result.

I hope to see some MOCs from you guys this year!

This is a great build, thanks for posting! I like how you did it without a fixed border, in keeping with the general theme. Really nice use of vines as well. The bottle with the jewelled stopper is a nice touch.

I really like this one. It's so simple yet shows a depth of character found in the best Lego ruins. And where the heck are those vines from?!!

It's not an actual lego element, but it comes off of the "Plant Flower Stem 1 x 1 x 2/3 with 3 Large Leaves" as they call it on Bricklink.

Thanks James and Adele! Glad you guys like the MOC.
Adele is right it is the green vine piece, so it is purist, just no thinks of using it. I actually got the idea from here:

The picture is from Derfel Cadarn's Detailed guide to building a Medieval Village.

That is a really excellent guide for anyone wanting to get into building medieval / castle stuff, or just wanting to learn new techniques. Classic-castle.com has a lot of really helpful how-to guides on a wide range of building techniques, not just limited to castle themes; if anyone is interested here is the link: http://www.classic-castle.com/howto/articles.html
